After a similar story involving an outdoor toilet for pets in Shanghai, some of us are beginning to veer towards the crazy idea that the Chinese aren’t actually as bad to animals as we may have thought.

However, recent online rage about Chongqing citizens who lifted their dogs up to drink from city drinking water fountains have left some to ponder whether people are taking such tender loving care too far.

The fountains provide drinking water for Chongqing people who are feeling the relentless summer heat, though when photos of dog owners making their pups lick the refreshing water went viral, many expressed concern. “I love dogs,” said one user, “but this is too much. Who will want to drink from there now?”
