Man Caught Smuggling Beloved Tortoise in KFC Food by Guangzhou Customs

At 10:00 on July 29, a man surnamed Li was preparing to take flight CZ345 from Guangzhou to Beijing, and was waiting in the security area of Baiyun Airport. When he took his KFC takeaway through the x-ray machine, security personnel were surprised to discover that besides a lot of grease, there was something else inside the bag of junk food.

One officer asked Li, “Sir, are there any tortoises in your KFC bag? Could I open it and have a look?” Li was unwilling to open his bag however, and hurriedly said, “There’s nothing to see here, only a burger.” After the officer asked him one more time however, Li admitted that there was a tortoise in his KFC bag. He explained that he simply wanted to take his “beloved” tortoise with him during his trip, and that this was the only way he could think of doing it.

It wasn’t to be however, and Li was told by security staff that he wasn’t allowed to take the pet onboard. Li then gave his beloved tortoise to a friend to look after for the time being. It’s a long way from Guangzhou to Beijing however, so Li will have to think hard of other ways to reunite with his tortoise.
