Man Breaks ATM to Cure Internet Addiction
Jun 26, 2015 By eChinacities.com

A 23 year-old Hubei man surnamed Ceng brandished a knife at an ATM in Wenzhou city, in what turned out to be a purposeful effort to earn jail time.

As for the reason behind his wish to be arrested, it was learned that the 23 year-old had become so addicted to the internet that he spent all his savings, and decided that he should do away with that internet addiction. Spending time in jail seemed to be the best solution.

On the early morning of June 19th, Ceng had just spent the last of his money at an internet bar when he was suddenly overcome with frustration. In a flash of inspiration, he suddenly came up with the idea to land himself in prison. Shortly after, he rushed over to a bank and brandished a fruit knife at an ATM there.

One security person was especially taken by surprise by Ceng’s antics. As the person spoke over intercom telling Ceng that the police would be called if he continued, the 23 year-old ran out and returned with a brick even more determined to smash the ATM.

After the whole episode, Ceng didn’t flee the scene but knelt at the entrance, waiting to be arrested by police. He’ s been detained for 14 days.

Internet addiction requires willpower and perhaps counseling to break away from. I doubt he will find either in a Chinese jail.
