Harbin Restaurant Employs Robot Waiters

Harbin Restaurant Employs Robot Waiters
Jan 28, 2013 By eChinacities.com

On Harbin’s famous Zhongyang Avenue lies a new “robot operated” restaurant where customers can enjoy the novelty of having their orders taken by robot waiters. The robot manned staff also play their part in the making of the food by acting as chefs in the restaurant. After hearing the news, customers have flocked to the restaurant, curious to know what robot-made food tastes like. Each robot is said to have the intelligence of a 2-3 year old child, and cost around 200,000 RMB each to build.

Not sure why the owner would go ahead and purchase these two robots. It does not make any business sense to me; 200,000 rmb per robot!? That would pay for 15 years of salary for a normal waitress or waiter! The robot will likely break down and in the long run cost even more in repairs. I do get it though, this idea is a novelty and will attract more customers but I think this will wear off and people will just get bored of it. There are other ways of attracting customers than this gimmick. My advice to the owner; get someone professionally to advertise your restaurant creatively and save your money. Just a thought. Good luck!
