Chongqing Actually Bans Bacon to Reduce Air Pollution

Chongqing Actually Bans Bacon to Reduce Air Pollution
Jan 28, 2015 By eChinacities.com

Chongqing’s Environment Protection Bureau has taken the bizarre step of banning the production of smoked bacon, as it is being blamed for causing air pollution in the city.

Starting from January 20, anyone smoking bacon in the city will face fines of up to 5,000 RMB, according to the official website of the Chongqing Environmental Protection Bureau.

A recent report analyzing the causes of the city’s serious smog problem pointed to smoking of meat as a major source of air pollution- never mind that this practice is centuries-old and existed long before the city’s smog problems.

Other cities in China have also blamed small private barbeques for China’s extreme smog problem in the past. Last year, Beijing attempted to ban outdoor barbeques and chuanr stands, citing pollution as the reason.

The move has been ridiculed online, with netizens commenting that they should probably ban cooking and breathing as they are no doubt enormous contributors to air pollution.

Every time I think the Chinese could not possibly do anything more idiotic, I read something like this. I've also seen this in action, in Haikou they've shut down every street barbecue within the last 3 months, not that Haikou is polluted, but they appear to be blaming the village-vibes here on the BBQ- get real, these people are villagers because of the nonexistent education system. In the north they're blaming pollution on the BBQ. Hilarious.

I hear that as another benefit to society Chongqing will also ban bicycles as they have proven that riding them contributes to physical exercise, which also releases CO2 at a higher rate than sitting at a desk doing nothing. More citizens are encouraged to sit at desks to avoid creating any more stress on the environment.

Heavenly Chinese New Year gift for Chongqing's health department heads, senior health inspectors and their kids studying abroad; all of them can now add Porsche 918 Spyder and LeFarrari to their garrage. Not much face driving BMWs! How about our 'poor' environment department heads? No worries, they are well taken care of by their factory sponsors chinawide. You don't even deserve to be a junior CCP official without having a deep understanding of the wisdom behind 'you scratch my back and I scratch yours'!

Farting would be a tough one, as most government officials are full of "hot air".
