China’s Opinion Towards the Recent WikiLeaks Case

WikiLeaks has recently released a large amount of classified U.S documents, which much to the embarrassment of the White House, continues to be a hot topic in major media such as the  New York Times. People are wondering why the White House is at a complete loss as to how to deal with Julian Assange and the New York Times. Amazon has recently shut down WikiLeaks server which has become a sensitive topic in the realm of business ethics. Phoenix Net (ifeng.com) recently asked its internet users about WikiLeaks and the classified documents of the U.S government; the investigation yielded the following findings:

1)  Do you think Assange is a hero or a villain?
1. Hero; he is a defender of the public’s interest. 14123 votes 91.3%
2. Villain; his actions have violated American law  and have been detrimental to the country’s interests. 328 votes 2.1%
3. Can not say for sure. 1011 votes 6.5%
 
2)  What do you think of the New York Times and other media outlets publishing the documents leaked by WikiLeaks?
1. I support this; that’s the job of the media, to spread decrypted information. 13737 votes 88.8%
2.  Disapprove; the traditional media gives up too much sensitive material when they announce content. 1405 votes 9.1%
3.  Object; the information damages national interests. 319 votes 2.1%
 
3)  What do you think of Amazon removing the WikiLeaks server?
1. Against it; Amazon has put its commercial interests above its strength of character. 7826 votes 50.6%
2. Helpless; the pressure from the U.S government was too great for Amazon. 6929 votes 44.8%
3. Normal; WikiLeaks went against the relevant provisions of Amazon. 707 votes 4.6%
 
4)  What impact do you think WikiLeaks will have on the image of the U.S in terms of international politics?
1. Seriously affected the United States’ international image, maybe even causing causalities. 6046 votes 39.1%
2. It will have some impact but will not have serious consequences. 8553 votes 55.3%
3. It will not be affected. 863 votes 5.6%
