The Beijing Department of Cultural Market Administration reported that it has found 500 porn sites that use Mandarin as their primary language. 85% of the sites have servers in the United States.
As China has no jurisdiction over foreign websites, the government hopes to strengthen international cooperation so that large multinational companies will be social responsible and help take strides against pornography.
For now, China will continue to block porn sites from search results and ban porn advertising in order to limit its development within China.
Out of the 500 websites, 425 are located in the United States. 22 are in Japan, 13 in Hong Kong, 10 in China, five in Korea, five in Singapore. Britain, India, Hungary, the Netherlands, Spain and the Czech Republic have at least one.
Nine have servers in unknown locations. The sites located within Mainland China frequently change their IP addresses.

The US wishes that American companies that innovate quality creative products didn't have their profits undermined by Chinese copycats, crappy fake products, and corporate espionage. The Chinese don't like American made porn. We can all quibble about the greater annoyance here.

is watching porn offensive because of moral reasons, or are they making sure no commerce is lost from men opting to whack off to a free website rather than spend money in a KTV? I begin to wonder… CCP is obsessed with controlling all forms of scarcity, consumption and cashflow in China.

Its just a tool used to control the internet far beyond things like porn. Just like in the U.S. they use terrorism as the tool to spy far beyond terror threats.

no, i'm certain it's about profits. horny guys are potential cusomers the gov't doesn't want to see lost to free foreign porn sites when they could be collecting a kickback from "illegal" prostitution (the illegal moniker just raises the price, nothong more). compare it with google: a for-profit app store will be opening in China soon, while the free search engine will still be forbidden. ignorance is profit. ever tried using a Chinese search engine? i once asked my wife for the name of a plant used to make a jelly snack, the answer she found was one of the most poisonous plants in existence. if i hadn't studied biology and learned the latin names of the Nightshade plant family, i might have poisoned myself and friends just trying to make a snack.
