Obama bets with Harper on the Canada-U.S. ice hockey match and loses a crate of beer

Canada and U.S. men's ice hockey teams had battled it out for the last gold medal in the 2010 Winter Olympics. Canada scored a goal in overtime and finalized their win over the U.S., winning themselves their final gold medal; the scores also revealed the winner of the highly publicized bet between U.S. President Barack Obama and Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper for the match.

According to Associated Press reports, Canada finalized their win over the U.S. with a score of 3-2 and received the gold medal. President Obama and Canadian Prime Minister Harper had personally wagered a crate of their country's oldest and best brew for the outcome of the match – with the loser buying a crate of beer for the winner.

Apparently, President Obama had pledged a case of Yuengling – Yuengling beer is an old brand brew from America's northeastern state of Pennsylvania, reputed to be the oldest beer in the country. Prime Minister Harper had wagered Canada's oldest beer Molson against Yuengling in the bet. Obviously, PM Harper had won, but one has to wonder when he's actually going to get his hands on his rightful prize.
