China is the country with the most billionaires in the world, according to a new report.
The 2018 Hurun Global Rich List put the Middle Kingdom on top of the world when it comes to billionaires, with China (including Hong Kong and Taiwan) boasting 819 high-ballers, a increase of 210 since last year.
China is said to be adding four new billionaires to its rosters each week.
Beijing is the city with the most billionaires in China and the world as a whole, with 132 in total and 37 more than last year.
Just two years ago China and the US had roughly the same amount of billionaires, 534 and 535, respectively.
This year, however, the numbers are vastly different, with the US only bolstering its ranks slightly to 571.
China also plays host to the world’s largest number of self-made billionaires, as opposed to those who inherited their wealth.
Only 15 percent of the world’s billionaires are women, but of these, 78 percent are Chinese.
The richest self-made woman in the world is Chinese touch screen company founder Zhou Qunfei, although the richest woman in general remains America's Walmart heiress Alice Walton.
Hurun Report founder Rupert Hoogewerf said, “Chinese women completely dominate when it comes to the most world's most successful women in business.”
China has five cities in the top 10 with the most billionaires in the world.
The top five reads Beijing, New York, Hong Kong, Shenzhen and Shanghai (tied with London).
According to the much respected Times Higher Education Asia Rankings, Tsinghua University and Peking University are the second and third best in Asia.
