Pizzas are a staple for many Western travellers, and Chengdu has a lot of expats looking for pizzas. Pizza is a little taste of home, a link to sanity and the “real world.” So the question arises: where can one get a good pizza in Chengdu?
For the traveller who doesn’t care, try Pizza Hut or Papa Johns. They are spread all over Chengdu and are almost impossible to avoid. However, for those seeking alternative culinary experiences, Chengdu has quite a lot of restaurants and bars that offer pizza.
That is not to say that all the offers should be accepted. In fact, many pizzas seem to come straight out of a Stephen King horror story, and are downright unfriendly to the stomach. However, there are some noticeable exceptions that stand out from the crowd, like Milton amongst poets, or Rembrandt amongst artists.

In a survey of expats, most referred to Shamrock Bar and Restaurant when it came to pizza. Actually, the Shamrock is quite renowned for many things in Chengdu and hits the top of this list because it also has meat pies for Australian customers.
The Meat Lover pizza has chicken, bacon, ham, salami and olives, with a good covering of tomatoe sauce and mozzarella cheese, and is quite agreeable to the palate. Also on the menu are Salami, Bacon, Chicken, BBQ Lamb, Hawaiian, Veggie and Margherita Pizzas.
They are quite reasonably priced at 50-55 RMB for an 8” and 60-65 for a 12” pizza. They are available for takeaway or dine in.

A dedicated pizza restaurant, Highfly attracts locals and tourists alike for its cheap and delicious pizzas. They have generous servings of meat, which is a plus, but a little more squeezing on the sauce bottle wouldn’t go astray. The crust is a little thicker and softer than others, but still fit for human consumption.
They don’t really have the biggest or tastiest pizzas in Chengdu, but they are perfectly edible, and by far one of the best value pizzas in Chengdu. Many students seem to like them for the relatively low cost, at around 50 RMB. Delivery is free within the second ring road.
