Talented foreigners at the top of their field will be eligible for new 10-year work visas for China.

According to state media, the multi-entry visas will allow holders to stay in China for 180 days at a time for a period of 5 to 10 years.

The partners and children of these superstars will also be welcomed into the Middle Kingdom.

The long-term China work visas will only be offered to highly skilled foreigners, such as scientists, successful entrepreneurs, top athletes, financial whizzes and tech leaders.

Professors, leaders of top universities and Nobel Prize winners will also be in with a shot.

China is increasingly looking to recruit experts from abroad in a bid to speed up its economic and social development.

It is expected that at least 50,000 people will take advantage of the new visa, which can be applied for online for free and will apparently be processed quickly.

The bad news for those of us who aren’t Nobel Prize winners is that while China seeks to welcome more top talent into the country, it is simultaneously seeking to limit the entry of less skilled expats.

In 2016 China introduced a ranking system for foreigners, with applicants given an A, B or C rating depending on their skills.

Those assigned to the lower ranks will likely find it increasingly hard to get a visa to work in China.
