Shopping for shoes should be fun! But it’s not entirely impossible. Believe it or not, Beijing has several shops that cater to men and women who need big-sized shoes; whether you prefer to walk out with your shoes in hand, ready to wear, or have them custom made, specially for your feet only, Beijing has it!

If you prefer comfort over fashion when you can’t find a nice mix of both, Zhangzizhong Lu is an excellent choice. Ping’an Avenue is known for its strips of small shops and in the mix you will find several shops that sell large size shoes. It isn’t known for being the place where fashionistas shop but it does put out a variety of comfort fitting, long-lasting shoes for everyday wear. You will find similar things to Yashow but at a cheaper price and friendlier experience.

Nei’, meaning to work in the royal court, and ‘Lian Sheng’, meaning to be promoted, is an ancient shoe store that was recorded in the Cultural Heritage list in 2008. The shoes are made by hand and during imperial times, they only made shoes for the court. Today, anyone can buy shoes here and while many buy them as souvenirs, they are said to be extremely comfortable to wear and thus promote healthy feet. The shop custom makes men’s, women’s and children’s shoes. Take in a photo and they’ll make you a comfy replica of great quality.

Sanlitun is full of goodies, including a few shops that specialise in either larger shoes or handmade shoes, which will of course include any size needed. Huge Wave on level three of the 3.3 shopping mall offers a variety of styles and material to make the shoes of choice. They carry a full stock of popular brands, including Cole Hann, Paul Smith, Prada and more. If you don’t find what you’re looking for from their stock, like many of the handmade shoe shops, they are excellent at making copies from a photo. They accommodate sizes 36-48. This shop tends to be on the expensive side when comparing the quality of other shops, so be sure to negotiate to ensure you get what you pay for.

Another shop in the Sanlitun area is shoes, inside Nali mall. If you’re into fashion, stays in the know when it comes to providing customers with the latest shoe fashion. And yes, they have all sizes. Yet another Sanlitun hotspot for big shoe sizes is in the basement level of Sanlitun Yashow Market. There are dozens of stalls with shoes and many of them cater to larger sizes of shoes. It’s always hit-and-miss at Yashow as inventory circulates and changes but often times there is a wide range of business, casual, sports, outdoors and sandals with  varieties in sizes 36+.
