Real Polish: Beijing’s Best Nail Salons

Real Polish: Beijing’s Best Nail Salons
By Robynne Tindall , eChinacities.com

Low prices and speedy service make getting a manicure or pedicure one of the small pleasures of living in Beijing. However, choosing from the huge number of salons scattered across the city, especially in areas like Sanlitun, can be bewildering. Here, we narrow the list down, while still including something for everyone, no matter what your budget.

1) Zig ZagView In Map
Far away from the rapid turnaround and bright lights of the salons in Sanlitun, Zig Zag has a relaxed, ethnic-inspired atmosphere. Set amongst the shops and bars on Wudaoying Hutong across the street from the Lama Temple, Zig Zag is a haven for Dongcheng hutong-dwellers. The friendly staff focus on quality over speed. As a result, the prices are higher than many other salons, but you really do get what you pay for. A standard O.P.I. manicure is 68 RMB and they have a comprehensive selection of colors and patterns to choose from. They also offer a range of waxing services (38-398 RMB) and massage treatments (88 RMB for foot reflexology).

2) Frost NailsView In Map
Get a head start on your girls’ night out by having a few drinks while you have your nails done at Frost. As well as giving accomplished manicures and pedicures, Frost serves up a well-put-together selection of imported beers and tasty cocktails (40-60 RMB). Even if you’re not interested in getting your nails done, Frost is still a cosy place to while a way an afternoon or evening, especially when the weather is clear and they have tables outside. Manicures start from 30 RMB for the basic package. If your manicure has left you peckish, chef and owner Jeff Powell also cooks up some of the best burgers in Beijing on the grill outside, so get down and try one before the weather turns cold.

3) Xin Hong Feng Salon View In Map
The main advantage of Xin Hong Feng Salon is its location; on the first floor of Yashow Market, it is the perfect place to start a night out in Sanlitun or combine with a shopping trip in The Village. Prices are very cheap (30 RMB for a basic manicure) and the service is quick and efficient. The quality of the treatment is not outstanding, although you can upgrade to O.P.I. products. For a special occasion, we recommend getting a set of gel nails (100 RMB), which last for up to three weeks. A note of caution: don’t have the gel nails applied too often as the treatment is quite harsh and can weaken your nails over time.

4) Nacho Dai (CBD branch)View In Map
Founded by two friends, one from Spain, one from Beijing, Nacho Dai is conveniently located for residents of the CBD and Shuangjing areas. They recently opened a second store in Sanyuanqiao as well, which also includes a café. The stores are plush and luxurious, and it feels like a real treat to spend a few hours getting pampered there. The salon uses high-quality LCN hand and foot care products from the U.S. and you can choose from either LCN or O.P.I. nail polishes. A basic manicure (including nail care and polish) is 160 RMB. Their nail technicians produce some of the most interesting and original nail designs in Beijing, including some specifically for weddings. Follow them on Weibo (http://weibo.com/huijiashe) to keep up to date with their latest designs.
