Halloween Hell Raiser 2012: Top Events in Beijing

Halloween is creeping upon us once again in Beijing, and there are plenty of events happening across the city. If you were planning on spending a quiet evening in watching an episode of Vampire Diaries or True Blood, think again! With so many hellish good events on offer—from Yan Fetish to wicked rock shows—why miss this once-a-year chance to put on a costume and unleash your inner freak?! Here's our round-up of the top 2012 Halloween events in Beijing.

1) 2012 Yen Fetish Party
One of the biggest and sexiest parties of the year, Yen Fetish is back in Beijing on October 26. Featuring six DJs (Usami, Ouyang, Blackie, Patrick Yu, X Lee and Dio) who'll be spinning a crowd-pleasing mix of filthy house, DNB, techno and dubstep beats, this is your chance to dress up in the kinkiest outfit imaginable—and get away with it—this Halloween weekend in Beijing!

Where: Tango 3F
Price: 150 RMB (at door), 100 RMB (advance), 260 RMB (VIP advance)

2)  Chilloween at Haze
Hosted by Beijing LGBT, Haze's Halloween bash is sure to be an electrifying party. Featuring all the usual suspects and more, including Yang Bing, Donald Summer, Pancake Lee, Patrick Yu, Ludo V, Max Feelgood, Kaize, Tiger9stein and VJ:Elisa, this year's event organizers are encouraging revellers to dress up in a Halloween costume with "Chinese characteristics". A zombie emperor or vampire Confucius anyone? And those who come in animal costumes will get special, naughty gifts. So unleash your inner animal and go wild at Beijing's queerest party!

When: Oct 27
Where: Haze
Price: 60 RMB (advance; available at Café Zarah's and Jazzya), 100 RMB (at door)

3) Spooked Halloween Bash at Lantern
Acupuncture Records are not laying low this Halloween. Deep in the vaults of the Worker's Stadium, Weng Weng, Elvis T, QQ and more will be lurking by the decks, ready to pounce on revelers with their electronic tunes. And if you can resist the zombiefying tunes and break away from the dance floor, why not lather yourself in a wicked coat of body paint? What's more, those brave enough can take part in a cut-throat costume competition; just make sure you don't lurk in the dark shadows for too long…

When: Oct 27, 21:30
Where: Lantern Club
Price: 100 RMB (advance), 150 RMB (at door)

4) Halloween at 2Kolegas
A wicked line-up of live bands awaits those daring enough to venture to the dark and creepy drive-in complex. Subs, Steely Heart, Candy Monster and Wu & The Side Effects will be ripping it up on stage. Come in costume or just as yourself (perhaps even scarier), and don't forget to look over your shoulder as you walk past the eerie mini-forest on your way to the bar!

When: Oct 27, 22:00
Where: 2Kolegas
Price: 60 RMB

5) Electric Halloween Night at Mako Livehouse
Hardcore night ghouls can venture even further into the Beijing darkness all the way to the creepy, back-alleys of Mako Livehouse where electro tunes by Zaliva-D, Noise & Noise with VJ Ink (from Detroit) and DJ Kikadark's await.

6) Halloween at Yugong Yishan
To confuse the ghouls and ghosts lurking about, Yugong Yishan has opted for a night of bluegrass. Not the most festive of choices you may say, but worry not: costumes are more than welcome and in fact prizes will be given to the best one. Randy Abel Stable headline, with Not There and Confectionaries supporting.

When: Oct 31, 21:00
Where: Yugong Yishan
Price: 50 RMB (advance), 70 RMB (at door)

Honorable Mentions
Not all ghoulishly good events can be featured on this list, but a few events have crept into our conscience and threaten to crawl about there until they're exposed. Modernista is hosting an Adam's Family themed night with promises of free Spanish hot chocolate (the kind with rum) for those in costume on Oct 31; XP will host a ear-drum piercing punk bash with the Beijing Misfits, Bedstars, Las Perracas on the 31; Devils at the Crossroad and three other bands unleash their ferocious tunes in Mao Livehouse on the 31; a special shout out also goes to Enoterra who will once again be serving a devilish sangria concoction for 20 RMB for all those in costume on Oct 27. Of course, these are just the tip of the iceberg and many more bars and clubs will be embracing Halloween in one form or another. The onus is on you to decide…mwahahahahaaaaaaaaa.
