The British are coming to Beijing this July with Olympic themed bashes to celebrate the start of the games. If the sweltering city is too much to handle, get down and dance at one of the destination parties happening this month. Get your hippie on in the Hebei grasslands or party at a Great Wall site.
1) Yugong Yishan British Rush View In Map
In honour of the London Olympics, Yugong Yishan presents a day and night of British fun. The celebrations begin in the afternoon with a British Vintage Market and an exhibition of London street scenes. Rock out at night with UK band Exile Parade and three local bands: Residence A, CNdY and Elenore. Drink English beer and watch football or dance to Brit-rock and pop. London’s calling!

2) Split Works presents Mark Kozelek
Head over to MAO Livehouse to check out Mark Kozelek, one of the most respected lyrical geniuses of this era. Kozelek currently plays with Sun Kil Moon and was the lead singer of San Francisco based Red House in the 90s. This is his first China tour, and is definitely worth checking out.

3) Olympic Games Opening Ceremony PartyView In Map
Let’s see if London can top the 2008 epic Bird’s Nest show. Beijing has passed the Olympic torch to London and the opening ceremony is upon us. Celebrate at 2 Kolegas and watch the ceremony on a giant projector screen. The night will also feature the Beijing Beatles, prizes for best-dressed (break out the face paint and come in your country’s colours!) and some Olympic themed fun and games.

4) Yen 8th Anniversary Party at the Great Wall
Party at China’s most famous ancient relic on July 21 with the folks who’ve brought you eight years of Beijing bashes. Dance until dawn at the Huangyayuan Great Wall to the tunes of DJs Eddie, Lv, Blackie and Mickey Zhang. Lush and Aperitivo will man the bar and pour drinks until the sun rises. 6) Zhangbei InMusic Festival
The fourth time’s the charm. After a few years of shaky disorganization, we saw the Zhangbei InMusic Festival finally hit its stride last year at festival number three. The festival itself is located in the Hebei grasslands, a bit of a haul from Beijing (almost in Mongolia) but a pretty awesome camping trip. International acts Spiritualized and Orbital, Jonathan Joyce, Linkoban and Joanna Wang will play along with domestic favourites including Tang Dynasty, Brain Failure, Miserable Faith and A-BOYS.
