Even as a smoker I disagree with this article. Zhongnanhai, baisha? You would be better off smoking toilet paper.

Zhongnanhai was listed as No. 1 in the top 10 Chinese brands in Japan a few years ago. It was a surprise to me when I saw the list but I guess Japanese do like smoking toilet paper, haha!

I really like Zhongnanhai cigarettes; I prefer the 5's but most people at my office smoke the 8's. As far as 10RMB-or-less packs go, it can't be beat (at least in WuHan) and is about as close to authentic "Marlboro Lights" you're ever going to find in China. I hear they do sell Marl Lights in China but I've never seen a pack, sadly :(

Zhongnanhai are the most popular with foreigners because they taste more normal. Other brands are either too chalky or toxic tasting. That said the new Zhongnanhai green tea flavour smokes (the light green pack) taste positively chemicalised. Still after a few bevvies, they all taste the same :)

after miscalculating my financial situation in China I began smoking the 10′s, 4 kuai pack. At first they felt a bit dirty but I started to grown on them and after I left China I asked a friend of mine to bring me back a carton, cause I just loved them. For the price you are paying, they are actually not that bad
