Black Cab Driver Calls Student a Traitor for Helping Lost Foreigner

Editor’s Note: Have you ever been ripped off by a black cab in China? A young student in Shaanxi recently saved a lost foreign man from being cheated by a black cab. The cab driver was extremely angry at her and called her a traitor for taking away his business.

On the morning of September 26, a sophomore named Xiao Zhao was on her way to class at Shaanxi Vocational and Technical College. She came across a young foreign man with a map, trying to ask passerby for help. A van pulled up next to the foreign man and tried to get him to pay for a black cab service. The foreign hesitated, and Xiao Zhao tried to help him. She asked him where he was trying to go. He told her he wanted to take the airport bus but did not know how to find it.

You’re a Traitor!
Xiao Zhao told the young man that the airport bus was about two or three hundred meters away. All he needed to do was walk five or six minutes. The driver of the van had already gotten out and started to put the foreign man’s luggage into his van. The driver said, “But a taxi will take you there directly,” and tried to get the foreign man to come into his car. Now that he knew the airport bus was so close, the foreign man took his luggage out of the car, thanked Xiao Zhao, and left in a hurry.

When the foreign man walked away, the driver told Xiao Zhao that she had been too nosy. He accused her of being a “traitor.” Xiao Zhao was angry at the taunt. “The airport bus stop was obviously only a few minutes away, I would help him avoid taking a black cab whether or not he was a foreigner,” said Xiao Zhao.

The Danger of Black Cabs
Xiao Zhao said that this happens to foreigners a lot, especially near train stations or other points of transportation. Black cab drivers will deliberately approach foreigners. The cab drivers will then try to cheat or take advantage of their foreign passengers who are unfamiliar with the area.

The story of the incident was quickly passed WeChat by Xiao Zhao’s classmates. Her classmates both praised her actions and were worried for her. Many supported Xiao Zhao’s sense of justice. Others said that they feared for Xiao Zhao’s personal safety when she stood up to the driver.

I was going to post and lash out to Chinese taxi drivers after my experiences with them in Xiamen, only to realize a second later we have the same fraudulent scum running around in Holland just the same (and very few, if any, Dutch would come to your aid like this girl did).

So I still don't get what's the difference between 'black' and 'normal'. They seem to be same..

So let's summarize here. Illegal business owner threatens a law abiding citizen for warning a Foreigner about to be scammed. In other countries, you know countries with working law enforcement, the black taxi could be fined and maybe jailed for running an illegal operation, it would take all but 5 seconds for the girl to take a photo of his license plate number. But in China, ahhh China, she may be in danger now for being 'too nosy' and doing the right thing, because cops won't do shit about the black taxi and will only pay attention after she gets beaten to death by the 'black taxi gang' (lol) and their friends. China, you suck. Kudos to the girl for doing the right thing, I wish, I REALLY wish there were more people like her in China, and less morons.

People called my girlfriend a traitor for being in a relationship with me. Don't interact with foreign people is the lesson.

A heart warming article. We don't often see articles about kind acts. Several times I have mistakenly overpaid for something and the vendor would make sure they gave me the correct change. I've also had my wallet lifted from my pocket here.It is not often that kind acts make the news, but when they do they remind us of the humanity in the world. There is good and bad everywhere. Personally, I like to focus on the good -

Funnily enough last week I could have made about 70yuan by being undercharged on two completely separate occasions. Both times I told them about their mistake and gave them the extra change they'd handed me back cause I see no reason to cheat people. Like you said, better to do that then try to visit revenge on people who cheated me on some poor innocent sod.
