Xunyang Local Government Offers Reward for Killing Stray Dogs
Jun 17, 2016 By eChinacities.com

If you live in Xunyang, Shaanxi keep your dog on a leash and close to your side. The local government has announced that it will offer a 200 RMB reward for each stray dog killed.

The announcement was first made by the Xunyang Committee Propaganda Department on June 1. However, no one has come forward to accept a reward.

The notice says that unattended dogs will be seen as stray dogs, even if they are privately owned. Dog owners must vaccinate their pets and keep them on a leash. Dogs walking without a leash will be classified as stray dogs.

Dog lovers are extremely angry about the new measure and have questioned the new policy online. Government staff explained that the measure is a way to get people to better manage and control their dogs. There have been a number of incidents in the city where off-leash dogs have bitten people. The government is under a lot of pressure to control both stray dogs and pet dogs in the city.

The government says that it plans to revise the notice.
