A member of the Beijing band Cave Have Rod is in trouble for encouraging fans to post up-skirt photos on WeChat. The band sent out an apology on its Weibo and said that the member had been kicked out of the band.

A Netizen posted on Weibo that a member of a Beijing band was holding a “contest” on WeChat asking fans to post “candid up-skirt photos.” He encouraged everyone in the group (about a hundred members) to participate in the “photo contest.” A number of fans could not stand idly by and reported the group to other media sites. The band member then organized a second group chat to insult and abuse those who had reported that pictures.

Screenshots from the group show up-skirt photos taken of women in elevators, buses, and other public places. Many in the WeChat group like the photos, making comments like “Keep it up!” and “This is awesome.” Commenters in the group taught others how to take the photos. The band member posted in the group to encourage members to keep the “contest” going.

Cave Have Rod apologized for the actions of their band member of their Weibo page. “The group has taken a laissez-faire attitude towards the actions of our band member, but his actions were wrong. We apologize for him and have begun the process of parting ways with him.”

Nice, so I should be able to make about 5k a day from suing people for taking a picture of "the laowai" and violating my privacy! Win!
