Anti-Japanese TV Drama Shows Naked Woman to Boost Ratings

Turn on the television in China and you’re almost certain to come across some drama depicting China’s wartime struggle with the Japanese in an ever-so patriotic racist kind of way. What you probably weren’t expecting to see is a naked lady thrown in the mix.

Recently, a scene depicting a naked woman being saluted by Red Army soldiers during an unidentified wartime drama caused quite a stir with Chinese netizens, and the scene drew heavy criticism online and even from a CCTV program.

This is only the latest in a series of ridiculous scenes—in a previous program, a Japanese soldier was sliced in half after fighting with a Chinese counterpart—apparently aimed at regaining the interest of bored audiences who may be tiring of the endless string of anti-Japanese war dramas.
