Is the tap water and the milk safe to drink in the big cities like Beijing, Shanghai or Wuhan?

It is never safe to drink the tap water in China. Always buy bottled water or boil water before drinking it. While it is not safe to drink there is no problem with using the water to brush your teeth or wash food with. As long as you don’t ingest it you shouldn’t have any problems.

As anyone following the news knows, China has had problems with milk and milk powder in the last year. Right now the milk is safer than ever as stricter regulations have been imposed. Make sure the milk you buy isn’t expired and has been refrigerated if it needs to be refrigerated.

I know Guilin is a big tourist town, is there any good nightlife there?

Guilin has a range of nightlife options. There are the mostly Chinese clubs which can be a lot of fun and a variety of smaller, quieter, and perhaps hipper establishments – restaurants, cafes, and bars – catered towards Guilin’s expat population. These places are often run by expats themselves and feature familiar food, music, and atmosphere.
