Was Tsinghua University’s Academic Portal Hacked by ISIS?
Jan 18, 2016 By eChinacities.com

Tsinghua University’s academic portal was hacked on January 17 at 10 pm. When clicked, the hacked page began to play music, and show content from Islamic Arabic scripture: “God is great. I do not fear death. Sacrifice is my ultimate goal.” Tsinghua quickly shut down the site server after the hack was discovered.

The “Islamic State Media” Twitter handle has not claimed responsibility for the hacking incident. The incident has not been traced to any hacker groups or organizations. The university’s information technology center is still investigating the origin of the hack.

Tsinghua University undergraduate student Long Siyu said that the hack was limited to a part of the site that stored announcements, and that the academic part of the site was not changed. Therefore, the hackers were not looking for student or university information or tampering with student results.
