US Has Been Spying on China for Years According to Edward Snowden
Jun 13, 2013 By eChinacities.com

Edward Snowden, the ex-CIA agent who recently exposed the United States’ National Security Agency’s top-secret surveillance programs, has told the South China Morning Post that the US government “had been hacking into computers in Hong Kong and [in China] for years”, in an exclusive article published by the Hong Kong paper on June 13. Snowden, who is now sought by the US for treason and disclosing state secrets, is believed to be staying in a safe house in Hong Kong.

In the interview with the Morning Post, Snowden claims that the US has been hacking computer networks around the world for many years, carrying out some 61,000 hacking operations globally including several thousand in China alone. Among the targets were universities, businesses and public officials. In revealing the cyber attacks against China, Snowden hoped to illustrate "the hypocrisy of the US government when it claims that it does not target civilian infrastructure, unlike its adversaries".

I've just been wondering why the all-knowing whistleblowers didn't line up during George W. Bush's tenure, since he told so many lies and dragged the US to war. Has it only dawned on Snowden now that the gov't has been spying on people and other gov'ts. Talk of selective memory here. If congress and the gov't are all putting up a fight to show this program is worth the salt, doesn't this say something about Snowden's lack of judgement and wrong timing.?After withholding info about explosive situations like Iraq, Guatanamo and many others, he chooses the wrong time, when Congress and the gov't are on the same wavelength to make declarations.they will join efforts to nib it in the bud, but he is a finished man. Asange had the same fantasies, but is now on the defensive.

After reading this story, there are just a few holes here that I would like to point out. 1)South China Morning Post. Thank goodness this paper has never been known for making up stories or for kowtowing to the Chinese Government. 2) "The US spies on other countries, people and businesses." You can easily replace "US" with any other country on the planet and the same would be true. This information is generic public knowledge. 3) No one has seen this guy in days and he comes out of hiding to talk to this paper when every news outlet in the world would kill for an interview? 4) (This is something I mentioned on the Answers portion of this site.) Even if this paper isn't making stuff up, or taking the story from the Chinese government for their own purposes, this is exactly the kind of non-information a spy agency would use to discredit one of their own. Seemingly damning without any real information being given. 5) He was not a CIA Agent. He was a contractor working with them as a computer tech. Yet another red flag (as it were) to the veracity of this story. I am not saying that this is true or not, but look beyond the words and see the bigger picture. Then decide.

govts spying on govts is in bounds. govts spying on people/ companies is out of bounds. (china spies on people and companies) him giving info about the us spying on people, good job. but giving info about the us spying on other govts is treason.

No shit, spying is nothing new. Any government that comes out and denies such things are effectively saying they can't be trusted

What would happen if a Chinese Snowden existed? I'm sure they would deny it. What is annoying in this case is the fact that China will milk it like a calving cow and be so two faced about it that it will make me want to punch stupid hypocritical Chinese in the nuts just for crossing the road..... Will everyone together just stand up and say "I am a lying, cheating cunt and i can't be trusted" already! Especially the US and China. Common!
