US Ambassador to China, Gary Locke, Announces Resignation
Nov 21, 2013 By eChinacities.com

Gary Locke, the first Chinese-American to hold the post of US ambassador to China, announced his resignation on November 20. In his statement Locke said that his resignation was down to family matters as he wanted his two children to finish up their high school education in America.

The former Commerce Secretary and two-term governor of Washington arrived in China in August 2011 to take on the post, and has been characterized as an “unassuming figure, best known by Chinese for his modest lifestyle.”

Locke said that he told President Obama of his plans to resign on November 1 and that the President was supportive. He will leave his post early next year.

I recall he was recently caught in a photo being in the wrong place at the right time... explaining later to the authorities that it was by accident... Perhaps that had something to do with his sudden departure...
