Track and Field Star Liu Xiang Announces Divorce

Track and Field Star Liu Xiang Announces Divorce
Jun 25, 2015 By eChinacities.com

Liu Xiang, China’s famous track and field Olympic gold medalist, has announced on Weibo that he and his wife are ending their 9-month marriage.

The two got married after 4 months of dating in 2014, and Liu Xiang’s blog entry stated that because of “incompatible personalities,” he and his actress wife have agreed to divorce. Despite the bitter news, his post was mild-mannered and wished both of them “a better life.”

It was revealed that his wife, Ge Tian, was once a fan of Liu Xiang. The two met in 2009 and solidified their relationship in 2012, after Liu Xiang pulled out of the London Olympics.

It has been shown that after their marriage, the two never really made public appearances together, and that his wife was been strangely absent from major parts of his life. She wasn’t mentioned in his retirement post on Weibo nor was she in attendance at his retirement speech in Shanghai, for example. The two also lived in separate residences between Shanghai and Beijing, with Liu Xiang preferring to check into hotels instead of live with his wife when visiting.

Previous rumors stated that the two were divorcing because Ge Tian tricked Liu Xiang into marrying her by pretending to be pregnant. The two never confirmed that rumor.

good thinking and thks, so she is an actress, daughter of a senior CCP official, lived in a luxurious apartment while attending art academy, didn't hide the fact she undergone plastic surgery...sounds like the high maintenance type, not the kind Liu can afford after his forced retirement, also it isn't any secret where/what prc actresses are 100% ready to go/do for 'screen tests'.... the marriage was probably a face show anyway, she probably got to try Liu out through her father's guanxi network when Liu was at his career peak. Fame gone, no (enough) money...time to play Sarah Brightman's...time to say goodbye...

Divorced after nine months because of "incompatible personalities"....How can you enter into a lifelong partnership with someone you've only known for four months? How much can you really know about a person's long term behavior in four months.

I don't think most Chinese people care about lifelong partnerships when they get married...
