Microsoft CEO Visits Beijing Amid Anti-Trust Investigation
Jun 01, 2016 By eChinacities.com

Reuters reported yesterday that Microsoft Corp chief executive Satya Nadella is in Beijing this week.

The State Administration for Industry and Commerce opened an investigation in Microsoft in 2014 because of anti-monopoly laws. Sources say that Nadella will meet with senior government officials to discuss the investigation.

Nadella is the second high-profile tech chief executive to visit China this month. Apple CEO Tim Cook visited China in mid-May to promote the company’s products. Cook met with China’s Vice Premier Wang Yang on May 17.

China’s anti-monopoly law was implemented in 2008. Microsoft is one of several foreign-funded companies that have been investigated under the new law. The investigation relates to compatibility, bundle sales, and document verification issues in Windows and Office software.

Microsoft also faces pressure in the Chinese market as China turns to domestic alternatives to Western technology products.
