Location and Climate

Often called the "tail of the dragon", Sanya sits at the far southern tip of Hainan Province. It has a hot, humid tropical monsoon climate with an average July maximum temperature of 33C (91F). Typhoons are common during June and July. City officials will often clear the area of visitors if a typhoon is forecast, but visitors should nonetheless take measures to ensure they keep up to date on weather reports. In winter, the temperature rarely falls below 17C (62F).
