Jon Stewart Reacts to Newfound Popularity in China [Video]

Satirist Jon Stewart has become a big hit in the Mainland after a skit on The Daily Show,  which saw him poke fun at recent North Korean antics, went viral on Weibo after it was posted on April 4. The video has so far accumulated over 3 million views.

The viewing figures broke the record for the most watched online episode in the show’s history, with the 3 million hits swamping the average online viewing figures of 100,000. Experts have suggested that Stewart’s biting satire offers young, informed Chinese with a brand of news and comedy that they are unable to obtain from their own media institutions.

Stewart later did a follow up video in reaction to his newfound popularity in China which consisted of a tongue in cheek skit that envisioned the show as if it was directly aimed at Chinese audiences.
