Heavy Rains to Hit Jiangnan and South China Later This Week

The Central Meteorological Observatory reported yesterday afternoon that Jiangnan and South China will experience strong rains from May 19 to 21.

Southern Guizhou, Guanxi, northern central and eastern Guangdong, central and southern Hunan, Jiangxi, southern Anhui, southeastern Jiangsu, Zhejiang, western and northern Fujian will experience heavy rain from May 19 to May 21. Most areas will experience 50 to 120 mm of rainfall, while Guangxi, northern central Guangdong, southern Hunan, and northwest Jiangxi will experience 150 to 220 mm.

In the heaviest periods of rain, areas will get 30 to 50 mm of rain within one hour. The rain will be accompanied by thunderstorms, high winds, and other severe convective weather.

The Central Meteorological Observatory reminded the public to pay attention to the latest weather forecast and take preventative measures to avoid the heaviest periods of rainfall.

Because of the heavy rain, there will be a higher risk of geological disaster in southern Hunan, east and southwestern Jiangxi, western Fujian, northern Guangdong, and southern Guizhou.
