Danish Politician Who Wished Death Upon Chinese Refuses to Step Down

A Danish politician has caused uproar after wishing death upon Chinese people in a post on Facebook.  In early August Fuat Yalan, a member of Socialdemokraterne in Helsingør, wrote the following on his Facebook page: “I hope that it will be 140 degrees and that all the Chinese will burn, so the world will be free of that Chinese filth.” Following his hate speech, Yalan was then quoted as saying the following to local newspaper Helsingør Dagblad: “If there was a Chinese person in front of me right now I would shoot him. I don’t care if I’m thrown out of the party, kicked out of Denmark or shot myself. I don’t care about politics and I stand by my words.”

According to reports, Yalan launched the scathing attack after seeing a video in which a small boy was abused by Chinese people. He has since argued that his words were directed at the people in the video, not all Chinese people.

His colleagues at the party have not been forgiving forever and have have asked him to withdraw from the party, stating “The comments were so volatile and so against our Socialdemokrat values, that we don’t feel that Fuat Yalan can represent our party.”

However, Yalan has so far refused to step down despite mounting pressure to see him go. Meanwhile, the Danish Embassy in Beijing was “deeply shocked and vehemently against the irresponsible and extremist comments.”
