Chengdu Airlines’ domestically-built ARJ21-700 regional jet is expected to officially begin commercial operations on June 28.

The aircraft will run a scheduled route to Chengdu from Shanghai Hongqiao Airport every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. The proposed date for the first flight (EU6679) is set for June 28.

A spokesperson from Chengdu Airlines said that the ARJ21-700 is currently running tests flights, and all parties involved are working to have the aircraft ready for the June 28 launch date.

The ARJ1-700 is the first commercial aircraft designed and produced in China. The aircraft has two different models: a standard SPD aircraft and an extended range aircraft. The standard aircraft can fly up to 2,222 km, while the increased ranged version can reach 3,700 km.

The first domestically built ARJ21-700 regional jet was delivered to Chengdu Airlines in a flight from Shanghai to Chengdu on November 29, 2015. Chengdu Airlines will become the world’s first airline to operate an ARJ21-700.

Chengdu Airlines ordered the extended range model for its first fleet of ARJ21-700 aircrafts to meet the market demands for the western Chinese transportation hub. Chengdu aviation has identified seven possible routes for the first five ARJ21-700 region jets: Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Xi’an, Nanjing, and Guiyang.
