Beijing is the center of the national railway and is home to four passenger railway stations: the Beijing Railway Station, Beijing West Railway Station, Beijing South Railway Station and Beijing North Railway Station (at Xizhimen). In addition, Beijing has Beijing East Railway Station and Fengtai Railway Station that deal mainly with freight.

The four passenger train stations each have a ticket window. Passengers can buy tickets for same-day travel or buy tickets up to ten days in advance. From 2012 onwards, train tickets can also be booked online (only at 12306.cn, the official website of the Ministry of Railways). Passengers can also call 95105105 to book tickets.
