An illegal live animal market was raided and shut down near the Gaoliming market in Beijing. This specific market allegedly sells about ten dogs a day at about 700 RMB each.
As Beijing enters winter, demand for dog meat for hot pot restaurants is going up due to its association with warmth in traditional Chinese medicine, and these markets are getting more popular as it is hard to get good dog meat.
Eating dog is not illegal, but is becoming more and more frowned upon as Chinese people prefer to have dogs as pets.
