Beijing Air Pollution Deemed Hazardous in October

Heavy smog and fog made Beijing one of the most polluted cities monitored nationwide this October. Air quality reached the qualified standard for only 19 days last month; a decrease of six days compared to last year. According to the Beijing Municipal Environmental Protection Bureau, air quality in Beijing became “hazardous” in October mainly because Beijing is positioned in the cross section of both cold and warm airs where air pollutants accumulate. Apparently heavy fog shrouded not just Beijing but the whole of North China as well.
