Apple to Invest $1 Billion in Didi Chuxing
May 16, 2016 By eChinacities.com

Apple announced on Friday that it will invest $1 billion in Didi Chuxing, China’s largest ride-sharing company. Fast Company reported that in a few hours after the announcement, commenters have already begun to speculate on the results of the investment and what it will mean for Apple. The website added that there are many reasons for Apple to invest in Didi and for DiDi to welcome Apple as a potential partner.

Chinese tech website Ping West posted a picture of a tweet from Uber CEO Travis Kalanick that has been making it way around the Chinese internet since the announcement. Kalanick tweeted, “girlfriend owns @apple shares which makes her a didi investor…#smh, #ridesharewars #domesticissues #thanksALotTim.” Netizens also posted a picture of Kalanick with Apple CEO Tim Cook smiling together the weekend before the announcement at the Met Gala. The Apple-DiDi merge may mean even more trouble for Uber in China.

I don't think this strategy will be useful for Apple in China.
