Shanghai Disney Resort will officially open in a grand opening ceremony beginning on June 16, 2016 and lasting several days. The Walt Disney Company and Shanghai’s Shen Di Group announced the official opening day of the park yesterday.

The Shanghai Disney Resort project has already attracted a large amount of global attention as one of the largest joint projects between a Chinese company and a foreign company. Disney and Shen Di hope that the park will attract tourists from across China and from around the world.

The large complex will include Shanghai Disneyland—a massive theme park with six sections: Adventure Island, Fantasy Garden, Mickey Avenue, Tomorrow World, Treasure Bay, and Dream World, which features a fantasy Magic Kingdom-like castle. The resort will also include two theme hotels and a Disney town.

The groundbreaking ceremony for the park was held in 2011, and construction began in 2013. In May 2015, the iconic fantasy fairy-tale castle was successfully completed. In April 2014, the two companies announced that the park would be expanded to hold more visitors.
