5 Foreign Models Conned by Agent, Held by Organisers

Becoming a model is a standard affair for many foreign students studying here, who need a bit of extra cash, but you do have to be careful with it. Unless you know and trust the agent well, it is best not to agree to any out of town jobs, even though the money can be tempting. This story of five foreign female students deceived into a modelling job and then trapped by the organisers is exactly the reason why.

The five woman ranged between 20 and 25 years of age and were from Russia, France, Brazil and Belarus. They were contacted by an agent called Wang Mou who worked for Beijing Entertainment Ltd. Wang Mou told them of a job in Hebei where they could get between 2000-5000 RMB for every day. The models were told they would be needed from December 7 to January 7 and would get 40,000 RMB at the end (yes the maths doesn’t quite match up).

On the night of December 7 the five women and Wang Mou went to Yunxi Hotel. According to the article Wang Mou collected the 40,000 RMB but only gave the models 6000 RMB as an advance.

The next evening the women get a text from Wang Mou saying, “Not safe here. Get out,” they heard nothing else and when rung, Wang Mou’s phone was turned off. Obviously afraid the models tried to leave, but the boss of the entertainment show demanded his 40,000 RMB back and refused to let them leave. The women were finally forced to call the police.

By December 9, the local PSB determined that Wang Mou was a fraudster and the models were returned safely to their school. The case is still under investigation.

Well, that is a China story to tell the folks back home.

@ dom87... I could not agree more! Lucky they weren't raped or worse! My only question is; are they going to be deported for NO legal Chinese Work permit or did they work-it-out in "trade" with the police and PSB? :)
