4 Vietnamese Women Deported for Working as Hostesses on Tourist Visas

Four Vietnamese women were deported for working as hostesses at a club in Wenzhou, five days after arriving in the city.

The women were arrested by police for illegal employment, fined 5,000 Yuan and deported. They will not be able to re-enter China for two years. The owner of the club can be fined up to 40,000 Yuan for the unauthorized employment of foreigners.

The police first detained the four Vietnamese women on suspect of prostitution. After investigating, police found that the women were not prostitutes, but were working illegally as hostesses. It is illegal to work in China on a tourist visa, so the women were deported on the charges of illegal employment.

The four women are aged 23 to 26. They told police that they  traveled to Wenzhou because they heard that it is a good place to earn money. The women traveled to Hong Kong from Vietnam and then traveled to Wenzhou on a tourist visa.

Foreign women working illegal hostess gigs usually live in rented rooms, and speak simple Mandarin so that they can chat with guests drinking at the club. They generally earn about 500 to 600 Yuan per day. If business is good, they can earn more than 1500 Yuan.

Typical Chinese propaganda article. The emphasis is on the Vietnamese girls who were working at the club, not the Chinese club that hired them (the real criminals). No doubt some cash will be paid under the table and it will be business as usual for the club.
