Sep 19, 2011 By eChinacities.com

The first ever Lanzhou City Folk Rock Music Festival will kick off at Jincheng Theatre on September 23rd. A number of China’s biggest and most respected folk-rock musicians will perform during the one-night event, including Zhao Muyang, Zhang Quan, Guo Long, Zhang Weiwei and Li Jianbin.

Chinese folk-rock has its roots in Northwestern China and its typical rugged and melancholic tone is reflective of this isolated region, which is often dubbed “the wild west of China”. Therefore, it is only fitting that this musical genre is celebrated in one of the key cities of the genre’s birth and development. Moreover, the above named musicians are five of the most prominent figures in the scene, having each played an integral part in folk-rock music’s surge in popularity in recent years.

Ticket collection: tickets can also be purchased at Kui Livehouse near Qingyang Lu and Jingning Lu.
