Serious question: how did we ever manage before WeChat came around? It seems like the chat app can do almost anything. Where else can you top-up your mobile phone, meet strangers from around the neighborhood (has anyone actually ever tried Shake?), play games, and send cat GIFs to your boss all at the same time? Now, you can even use WeChat to buy plane and train tickets. The train ticket aspect is especially exciting as purchasing train tickets in China is often a headache inducing process.
For your next trip, beat the rush at the ticket windows and book your train tickets effortlessly through WeChat instead. Who knows, maybe everything but standing room won't be sold out this time on your next twenty hour long jaunt across the country. At the moment, train and plane tickets can only be purchased in Chinese. Luckily, this article will give you a step by step guideline (with pictures) to help you navigate the world of WeChat ticket buying.
WeChat has partnered up with LY.com to allow WeChat users to purchase plane and train tickets inside the app. It’s a two step process where users need to register first, then they can purchase tickets.
User Registration
1) Visit the main Wallet screen and tap the icon circled below
2) Tap the circled icon in the screenshot below. This brings you to your Account page.

What's all the fuss??? I created a profile using my passport number and information directly on the 12306.cn train ticket website, can easily and effortlessly buy my train tickets there. Does nobody know this??? Choose your train, pay for it, then go to any station or office to pick up the paper ticket. And, yes, I can buy my tickets well in advance of national holidays, like any native Chinese person, too. I did so before SF, and have done so 3 times since.

Yet another foreigner-UNfriendly app / thing in this commie state. Amazing how in Europe and other places we are able to develop software/ lunch menus / hotel brochures in like 20 languages including chinese/ japanese / arabic etc. yet in China they are unable to provide basic services in English. Even at places like Bank of China , the best you get is Chinglish and thats only in Shanghai. I love wechat but im surprised it has a multilingual interface. Think of QQ lol

I agree with your comment 100%. Guangzhou has the largest international trade fair in the world yet there are virtually no English services. China doesn't care about the rest of the world. Pathetic, self absorbed nation.

English is an international language of business. If i go to virtually anywhere in Europe, the average person at the counter speaks at least a decent level of English. They WANT our money. So they should at least learn. Especially in the so called international hubs like Shanghai dont you think? This isnt some small backwards Sichuan village.

Also, if you re banking with BoC, try their emergency service number hotline, dial 95566. The English is practically incomprehensible. Just saying.

That's true. You will find that most of these wechat features only apply to Chinese as you need a Chinese ID card number to register. Funny how China introduces services only for their people but forget about everyone else. In Australia, we bend over backwards to accommodate the Chinese. I don't know why we bother.
