Female College Student Tricked Into Sex and Extorted by Fake Modeling Agent
May 18, 2016 Translated by eChinacities.com

Editor's Note: Welcome to the jungle. Xiao Mei, the latest victim of the classic little girl in a big city story, was scammed out of her money, then her dignity. Then she was blackmailed. Read all about it in this translated article.

Xiao Mei, a university student from Sanhe, Hebei, always dreamed of becoming a celebrity. When she found an advertisement online posted by a member of a “performing arts company,” she replied. The man told her he could make her famous overnight, as long as she slept with him. She ended up being blackmailed by the fake agent for thousands of RMB and had to turn to the police for help.

The “Hidden Rules” of the Industry
Xiao Mei is tall and beautiful, so when she met a man surnamed Gong on the internet claiming to recruit models for a performing arts company this past March, she contacted him to sign up and sent her photos. Gong said that she had star potential and said he would set up a photoshoot for her so that she could become a model and help her become famous. However, he said that there was one condition: according to the “hidden rules” of the industry, she had to sleep with him first. Xiao Mei knew nothing about the modeling industry and agreed.

The Blackmail Begins
Gong made an appointment to meet Xiao Mei at a hotel in Beijing. At the hotel, Gong pulled out a modeling contract for Xiao Mei to sign and asked for a 1,000 RMB filing fee. He said that after she signed the contact, Xiao Mei would soon be contacted by companies hoping to book her.

Gong then shot some videos and photos of Xiao Mei. She was nude for most of them. Then Xiao Mei and Gong had sex. He had hidden cameras in the hotel room to record the whole thing.

Weeks went by, and Xiao Mei never heard from any companies hoping to book her. She contacted Gong to ask what had happened. Gong sent back her nude photos and videos and asked for 5,000 RMB. He said that if she did not pay he would send the photos and videos to her university, teachers, and parents. In order to protect herself, Xiao Mei sent Gong 3,200 RMB and asked him to delete the photos and videos.

The Agent Gets Greedy
However, Gong did not give up, and tried to extort Xiao Mei for more money. Xiao Mei wanted to get rid of Gong but worried that he would never delete the nude photos and videos. She lived in fear that he would release them.

On April 21, Xiao Mei decided to report the incident to the police. Sanhe police immediately started investigating the case. The case was very sensitive because if the photos were uploaded online, it would have a very serious impact on the victim’s life.

Gong was arrested by Sanhe police on May 5. He confessed to extorting Xiao Mei with the nude photos. Gong is currently under criminal detention and the case is under investigation.

The stupidity of both people is really amazing although I have sympathy for the woman who taken advantage of. In China there is so much sadness behind some people's smile....

Someone did this to her? Women are responsible for their own actions too. She was wrong to try to barter sex for a job. If she wanted the job, do your due diligence to verify everything.

How does "criminal" detention differ from "administrative" or any other kind of detention?
