1) SALT Restaurant View In Map
It’s no coincidence that SALT recently celebrated its fifth anniversary; the Lido stalwart serves up some of the best fine dining in Beijing. SALT is offering a special set menu this Christmas Day, with choices including foie gras, traditional roast turkey, braised venison and Zapaca 23 rum bread pudding. You can choose to have two or three courses (268 RMB and 308 RMB), with the option to add three hours of free flow drinks. The menu is available from 12:00-22:30.

2) Feast at East Beijing View In Map
Feast restaurant at the recently opened East Hotel on Jiuxianqiao Lu will be serving a three-course meal on Christmas day (328 RMB plus 15% service charge). The restaurant has attracted rave reviews since it opened, making it one of our top picks for Christmas Day. Choose from a range of starters, mains and desserts including a retro prawn cocktail and traditional roast turkey. Our pick for dessert is the pavlova, as Feast’s Chef Rob Cunningham is former executive chef of Capital M, well known for its mind-blowing pavlova.

3) Westin Beijing Chaoyang View In Map
The Westin Chaoyang’s Seasonal Tastes restaurant is holding a special version of its ever-popular Bubbalicious Brunch on Christmas day. With two sessions, 11:30-14:30 and 15:00-18:00, this option is great for both early birds and those who are still nursing a hangover from a late night out on Christmas Eve. All your regular Bubbalicious favourites will be available, along with festive specials. The full buffet, plus free flow champagne, wine, beer and cocktails, is 628 RMB (plus 15% service charge).

4) Heiligabend at Paulaner Bräuhaus View In Map
The mere mention of Bavaria conjures up images of snow-topped pine trees, festive wooden cabins, and plenty of Gluhwein. Capture this festive spirit at Paulaner Bräuhaus’ Bavarian-style Heiligabend celebration (Heiligabend means Christmas Eve in German). Enjoy a feast of roast duck and goose while you are entertained by the house band. 1188 RMB per person (plus 15% service charge), 18:00-23:00.

5) Sureño View In Map
The Opposite House’s restaurant Sureño offers a modern, yet comforting, take on Mediterranean food. This Christmas Eve they are offering a six course menu for 718 RMB (plus 15% service charge), including a seafood platter, roasted rib eye and chocolate and chestnut Christmas log. However, Sureño’s special set lunch, running from 24th-28th December, offers the best value. For 188 RMB (plus 15% service charge) you can choose from a selection of starters and mains, followed by gingerbread “pain perdu” and Christmas cookies.

6) DIY: Where to get your turkey
Expat stalwart April Gourmet sells frozen turkeys for 49 RMB a kilo, while over in Dongcheng Chez Gerard has them for 45 RMB a kilo. Call the latter ahead to check whether they have any in stock.
If you don’t have an oven (or prefer not to use it) French butcher Boucherie Michel is offering pre-roasted turkeys for 108 RMB per kilo. You will need to place your order seven days in advance. Pick up some of their delicious sausages and bacon to go with your turkey while you’re there. A Food Affaire also offers ready roasted turkeys for 120 RMB a kilo, including gravy, stuffing etc. Give them a call for more details.
