1) Green Forest Hostel (瓦舍)

Green Forest Hostel was opened in 2012 and is the only hostel in Nanning to be part of the YHA chain. Other than that, the hostel’s location is also pretty good, as it is located in the center of the city, in one of the most ancient parts of the city and about 2 kilometers from the train station. Opposite the hostel is Nanning’s most famous commercial street, and the snack street, while next to the hostel is a big Wal-Mart supermarket; Green Forest Hostel has perfect access to food, drinks and other daily necessities.
The hostel itself is clean, and there is free access to public computers as well as WiFi, and a pool table. There are other activities too, as the boss will regularly screen popular films. Amenities wise, there is 24 hour hot water, hair dryers, disinfecting towels, and there are lockers, too. You have to bring your own laundry detergent for laundry, but there are free storage facilities for a maximum of one week.
The whole hostel is non-smoking, and make sure you get in before midnight as there is a curfew. If you need to be collected from the airport, the boss can help arrange airport pick-up, for 120 RMB during the day and 150 RMB at night. The boss is licensed to be allowed to host foreign visitors, and his English is not bad. The hostel also provides free travel information. To book a room, email: firstname.lastname@example.org.

2) Star Youth Hostel (小星空)
Star Youth Hostel was opened in 2013, and is located near the South Lake, making this hostel a perfect option if you enjoy skylines at night – the view is great. It is conveniently located on a major road, only an hours’ drive from the airport, or 15 minutes from the train station.
The location is the ultimate spot in Nanning as it is the heart for all the commercial, financial and cultural institutions throughout the city, and also has good connections to transport (especially the direct train to Vietnam). South Lake Bar Street is also close by and provides a great nightlife for foreigners visiting Nanning or people living here. There is also a lot of good food nearby.
The hostel has free Wi-Fi in the public areas as well as the majority of the rooms, if you need Wi-Fi in your room tell them when you book the room so that arrangements can be made. The hostel also has broadband, free luggage storage, laundry facilities at 2 RMB per piece of clothing, 10 RMB breakfast deals, but has no airport pick-up.
There is no curfew, but it is better to come in before midnight as the staff will be resting after this time. The hostel is licensed to accommodate foreigners, and the boss speaks basic enough English for conversation and to answer simple questions you might have.

3) Haokewu Hostel (好客屋)
Haokewu Hostel is the newest hostel in Nanning, and has a total of four guestrooms and two common areas, two bathrooms and a big balcony. The public areas and the majority of rooms have free Wi-Fi, there are fridges, washing machines, televisions. The location is only 20 minutes from the People’s Park, and 5 minutes from Nanning train station: extremely convenient.
There is air-conditioning, 24 hour access to hot water, free luggage storage, washing services, but no airport pick-up is available. There is no curfew, although arriving before midnight is best, as the boss will stay up to wait for you.
Although the bigger rooms are not licensed for foreign travelers, the 4 people, single and double rooms can accommodate foreigners. The boss speaks basic English and can also offer travel advice for the area or answer any questions you have about travel in the area.

4) Panda House
Panda House was opened in Nanning in 2014 and provides a home for weary travelers. It is located right by Nanning train station, on Chaoyang Road, approximately a 7 minute walk away from the train status. From the airport, it will take about half an hour to get to the hostel, or if you take the airport bus it will take 40 minutes to get here directly. Opposite the hostel is a shopping center with everything you’d need for a convenient stay; a canteen, a supermarket, a bank and more.
The hostel itself has free Wi-Fi in the rooms, but no broadband in the common areas. There is free luggage storage, the hostel provides wake-up calls and free city and domestic calls. Laundry only costs 3 RMB per wash, and the hostel has a curfew of midnight.
The boss doesn’t speak English fluently, but does speak basic English. However if you have any important questions it is better to find a way to translate them into Chinese first. The hostel accepts foreign guests.
