Echo Books and Cafe: Dalian Cafe, Bookshop, and Cultural Centre

Now that temperatures have plummeted to below freezing in many places across China, and snow storms have been sweeping across the northern plains, keeping warm and finding shelter from the cold has become the number one priority. Below is a one Dalian venue that not only serves delicious hot liquids, but is also a little gem for finding the odd English novel, art events, and workshops to keep you entertained on the long, cold winter nights.

Echo Books and Cafe 艾书吧
This cafe is very popular among the expat crowd, not only due to its good, strong coffee, but because of the fact that a selection of English-language books can be bought here as well as the regular events and workshops it offers. Though the cafe’s book collection is small, a good rummage may well manifest into a great book find, which especially in the cold winter months in China becomes a prized possession of unspeakable worth.

Every Thursday, Echo Books and Cafe hosts a film night at 18:30 (10 RMB per person). For info on upcoming screenings click here (Chinese only). The venue also frequently hosts art exhibitions and is often the meeting place for language exchanges. Other events include art workshops (35 RMB per person), interesting talks and lectures. To find out more about events held here visit their group site on douban.com (below).

So if you’re wondering where to go or what to do this Winter in Dalian, don’t forget that Echo Books and Cafe is not only good for warming yourself up with a piping hot cup of coffee or tea, but its books, film screenings, art exhibitions, workshops and meetings makes this place a true cultural gem for sitting out the cold winter months.
