I have found that when renting an apartment in SZ you are required to give a deposit of 2 months rent plus the first month’s rent as well as pay the agent an amount equal to half a months rent as his/her commission. On top of the monthly rent you will pay a management fee based on the size of your apartment (usually about 200RMB) gas electricity cable TV Internet water. These 6 items will total about 500RMB.

giving a deposit of 2 month just ensure the interest of the landlord. landlord won't trust the strangers.so it is vital to hand on some money as gurantee . when house expire, the landllord will return you money back.living house, paying rental ,it's fair.paying the commission to the agent is also normal. they help you renting house ,you pay their money, it's ok.if someone offer free service for you, that means their high quality. I think it's great.but it can't reach at this time. I expect this day comes early.

Before, we would pay 2 months rent as deposit. We stopped doing that since on 2 occasions the landlord did not return the deposit, but deducted "repair-fee" - for an apartment that we had cleaned thoroughly when we came in and had painted completely just 3 months before we had to leave it because he had sold it!

The second time the apartment was sold under the explicit condition that our rent would remain the same for 13 more months and then two weeks later the new landlord raised the rent by 50%... We had to involve the police to get our deposit back.
