Café Culture with A Shenyang Aroma

Café Culture with A Shenyang Aroma

They say any good experience in life is delightful to your soul, but for an expatriate in Shenyang, it can also be an adventure to track down a great café in town. Shenyang is well known as an industrious city, and is now one of the few super-large business cities in China, with a population of over 7 million.

Expatriates are always looking for the best place to sit down for food and a coffee, so finding a memorable café is something like discovering gold. The following is a list of café establishments, all of which serve Western and Chinese cuisine in Shenyang.

Dio Coffee 迪欧咖啡

Ji Dian Coffee 吉典咖啡
This café is exquisite, due to its originality in ambiance and interior decoration - especially notable since it is an independently owned company. Located in close vicinity to the Middle Street Shopping Centre, the key element here is courtesy, highlighted by greetings from a host who will also open the door.

The first floor explodes with a lavish coffee bar and a beautiful white grand piano, perched on a floating glass platform adjacent to a curved staircase. All floors have beautiful marble tables with soft sofas and magazine racks.

The dimly lit interior gives a serene feeling of comfort during the evening hours. If you decide to journey up to the second floor, expect a choice of seating beside the front glass wall with a view of outside, or in a private booth. Throughout the café, there are well-situated aquariums loaded with tiny colourful fish.

The menu is impeccable, with a variety of dishes to choose from. Ji Dian serves Western style breakfast with a selection of eggs - any style available - and meats such as sausages and bacon, along with great tasting garlic bread.

And don’t forget the coffee. This café has a great selection of coffees, such as café latte with a swirl of chocolate syrup, café mocha, espresso, and black coffee.

Lunch is treated with equal respect, unleashing a selection of pizzas with endless Western toppings. Since many expats are carnivorous, there is also a great mix of steaks like T-bone, sirloin, rib eye and pork chops, cooked at whatever degree you fancy.

Never pass up dinner in this café. Appetisers explode with aroma and taste, with main entrees of vegetables, meat, and seafood. Desserts such as cake and ice cream are mouth-watering and their beverages range from fruit-flavoured milk teas and herbal teas, to freshly squeezed natural juices.

Casual strollers, families, and executives are all welcomed at Ji Dian Café, and will love to take advantage of its food, desktop computers with Internet access, free Wi-Fi, and delightful service.

The café consists of two floors -- the first has the actual coffee bar, window booth seating and regular table seating, while the second has more window seating and private booths. Private rooms are available for total privacy, perfect for business people trying to strike that important deal. In addition, a pianist plays soothing Western-and-Chinese-styled classical and pop music in the evening.

Whether it is for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, Dio Coffee café provides excellent service at any time. The menu consists of Western and Chinese appetisers, entrees, and desserts.

The beverage list has various flavours of coffee; latte, cappuccino, café mocha, espresso and more. Different types of brewed coffees are also available, such as Colombian, African, and Jamaican Blue Mountain, and you can order delectable coffee drinks, hot or iced.

If you like lugging around a laptop, no problem! Dio Coffee café provides Internet access and an electrical outlet sat next to most tables for free use. Just make sure you take along your Ethernet cable, or alternatively link to the Wi-Fi for free.
