Katy Perry will be absent from today’s Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show in Shanghai as the Chinese authorities denied her a visa, reportedly because she has shown support for Taiwanese independence.

Page Six reports that the American popstar will be replaced by One Direction heartthrob Harry Styles at the beleaguered event.

A source told Page Six that Perry’s visa was denied because Chinese authorities are unhappy about a performance in Taipei in 2014 in which she wore a dress adorned with sunflowers - a symbol of the Taiwan independence movement - and draped a Taiwanese flag over her shoulders in an apparent show of solidarity with the country.

“For every artist who wants to perform in China, officials comb through their social media and press reports to see if they have done anything deemed to be offensive to the country,’ the source said.

Along with Perry, supermodel Gigi Hadid also had her visa denied, reportedly because she posted a video on social media in February that appeared to show her mocking Buddha.

US band Maroon 5 are also thought to have been denied entry in 2015 because lead singer Adam Levine wished the Dalai Lama happy birthday on Twitter.

i think one of the pre conditions to becoming a celebrity in the west is to take pro inperialist political views, otherwise, you wouldnt have been sensationalized to begin with. thats why you will see the majority of western celebrities take anti chinese views

Why don't these artists mind their own business instead of making silly political comments?
