A Netizen posted a picture of a ticket on social media yesterday in which the driver was fined for eating a popsicle while driving. The Hangzhou ticket stated that eating a popsicle while driving constituted dangerous driving and the driver was fined 100 RMB in accordance with official traffic safety laws.

The Hangzhou traffic police department posted online saying the ticket was real. Police stated that on July 4, a police officer on duty at the city’s Qiutao Road intersection stopped and ticketed a minibus driver who was eating a popsicle while driving. He was fined 100 RMB and lost 2 points on his license.

The driver did not raise any objections to the police officer in person. The police officer wrote “eating popsicle,” on the ticket as the reason why the driver was pulled over.

Hangzhou traffic police said that because popsicles melt easily, they can be very districting to drivers. Police added that driving while talking on a hand-held device or watching TV while driving are also behaviors that cause dangerous driving.
