A healthy baby girl has been born from an embryo frozen 18 years ago in Jiangsu. Huang Qiong, 45 (pseudonym) gave birth on Wednesday to a 3,300 gram, perfectly healthy baby girl.

The embryo had been implanted in Huang’s womb by the Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital of Fudan University in Shanghai. The embryo had been “sleeping,” in a Shanghai infertility treatment center for 18 years and was implanted in the beginning of November. Dr. Chen Hua successfully “woke” the frozen embryo and transplanted it to Huang’s uterus. Frozen embryos are stored at -196˚C.
