Japanese Man Fined in Hubei for Driving Without a Chinese Drivers’ License
Jun 30, 2016 By eChinacities.com

Can you drive with a Japanese drivers’ license while in China? A Japanese man was recently fined for driving in Hubei with a Japanese drivers’ license rather than a Chinese one.

The Osaka resident was stopped by Chongyang county police on the G56 Hangzhou-Ruili Expressway while driving a white Mazda. He handed police his passport and a document from the Osaka Prefecture Public Safety Commission. He also gave his Japanese drivers’ license. He was fined 500 RMB by police for driving in China without a valid Chinese drivers’ license.

International Driving Permits are not recognized in China. Visitors must apply for a drivers’ license in China if they wish to drive in the country.
